Vitamins

The function of vitamins

Depending on the animal and the situation, various vitamins are added to premixes and mineral mixtures. The most important vitamins for cattle are vitamins A, D, and E. Vitamin E, in combination with selenium, which is also very important. A deficit of vitamins can cause problems such as bone abnormalities (vitamin D), fertility problems (vitamins A and E) or increased susceptibility to infectious diseases (vitamin A). Young stock, dried-off cows, etc. sometimes need supplementary vitamins, e.g. when they are grazing on a spot where the grass doesn’t contains enough healthy nutrients, because of the type of soil.
